Lucky Sunday

Well, I had a great day today. I didn't have to be at work untill noon today, so I decided to spend the morning at Central Park, time to see he leaves. Not only was it gorgeous and the weather was great (only in the 40s!), but while at the park I got to see part of the NYC marathon, so that was awesome. Then I decided to go grab a bit to eat before work, so I got off at Herald's Square, only to discover that they had closed down 6th Ave from Herald's Square to Byrant Park with all these stands selling things. So I grabbed a crepe and some yummy corn and cheese thingy and walked up and down the streets, just looking at all the booths. At work, there wasn't much to be done so we got off way early and the sun was still up, so I took a different train home, one that goes part of the way above ground and I got to see the sunset. All in all, a pretty great day.

Halloween....kinda.

Between the un-fall-like (VERY COLD!!) weather and the lack of stores that sell/put up Halloween decorations I almost forgot about Halloween completely. In fact, here was my biggest reminder:



The pumpkins they put in the tree-thingys on 34th street, which I sometimes walk down to get to work (a little more out of the way, but a nicer walk). So Halloween was a little weird. In fact, after years of being bombarded by Fright Fest from August-Novemember, forgetting Halloween seemed almost inpossible. However, what really reminded me was that they had to rent a fancy new fog machine for one of the parties we were doing at work ($700 to rent. To rent, not buy!!), and they were testing/playing with it in the shop, and it absolutely filled the entire floor with fog. I snapped a pic of the fog as it began to creep around into my gel area, but this really doesn't show you how much fog there is. And if there is one thing that reminds me of both Halloween and 6 Flags it's the smell of fog. (Also the smell of pop-corn trash. Like when you walk behind a movie theatre.)

So the fog inspired me to at least listen to the Chicago Cast company of the old Fright Fest show, and that was about as halloween-y as I got. (Bad idea too, the Chicago cast is AWFUL. I mean, I know it's a theme park show, but the least they could do is cast people that can actually sing.)

Ummm, this was on the way home. I just thought the whole tree-wrapped-in-corn-stalks-with-a-light-in-it-and-red-light-on-it was too funny.

I did have a nice night though. The ride home was funny only because I kept forgetting it was halloween and wondering why people were dressed as a Banana or whatever. Also, Kelly showed me how to sneak onto the roof of her apt, which might be the best thing ever. I do love sitting on roofs. And you get a nice view of Manhattan. Pictures to come of that later.

New York!!

Things I like about New York:
You can walk down the street eating your breakfast and it's totally normal.
You can stand around on the subways reading a book and it's totally normal.
You get a chance to read while riding the subways.
Cheap coffee.
Pom Frittes, possibly the most amazing food in the world. You can only have them every once in awhile because they're horrible for you. Also, Kelly and I have a theory that if they didn't run out you would eat yourself to death. You just keep eating them even when you're no longer hungry! (they are these huge potatoe slices with 45 different dipping sauces to choose from, but that description is really not doing them justice. My favorite sauces include: Vietmanese Pineapple, Lemon Dill Mayo, and Peanut Satay. Kelly's are Pesto Mayo, Mango Chutney, and Honey Mustard. So good!)


Anyway, New York is going fine. So far I really like my job and the people I work with. I work 8-10 hours a day, everyday. So, it's going really great. I'll post more details on it later. Here are some pics I took on my phone at/around work.

Haha, this is the first thing you see when you get off the subway at my stop. An awesomely tacky wig shop. I consider things like this the one of the perks of living here.

So, that's the update for now. New York is not and never has been my favorite city, but I'm growing to love parts of it. More updates on work and such later.
