Tropical Storm Best Birthday Ever!

     So, as you may have heard, a hurricane happened on the east coast in August.
     I'm aware that Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene did a lot of actual damage, including in my own bourgh of Queens, where power was out, houses were flooded, and falling trees did damage. Further south it was a real hurricane and did some real destruction.
     However, I do love storms. And this was the first Tropical Storm I've been in, and the first Hurricane I've ever had to prepare for, and being lucky enough to not to be hit hard by this storm, I had a lot of fun.
    I happen to find the descriptions my weather app uses funny and delightful, and I love the huge difference between the days before the hurricane and the day of pretty awesome.

Best Month Ever: Throw some glitter...

So, for my birthday my wonderful roomie Nick bought me tickets to Ke$ha. If you don't know who Kesha is, she is a pop singer who is known for dressing awful and having lots of glitter. We both love her. So, we decided to go all out and dress up for this concert. 

It was awesome. 

Nick got ready much faster than me.

Best Month Ever: I wasn't allowed to take pictures

So here's some random happenings from the summer.

First off, I went to the Museum of the Moving Image because they had an amazing exhibit about Jim Henson. You weren't allowed to take pictures, but here's the link if you want to see what it was about. I might go again.

Anyway, here's some other stuff from the museum. They just have it full of old props, costumes, set models and drawings, even weird collector things. It was neat.

Best Month Ever: Island Hopping

Here's some pictures from governer's Island that aren't from the re-enactment. The Island is really cool, it has bike rentals all around  (there are no cars allowed) and all the old historic houses are now shops and art studios. It was just nice even to be around so many trees and grass. You could forget you were even in New York.

Best Month Ever: Battlefield Edition

I went to a civil war re-enactment at Governers Island with my friend Colin. The ferry there is free, the Island is beautiful, and it was a fun day.

I've gone on many times about how beautiful my neighborhood is. In the summer it's bursting with plants everywhere. Although there are trees everywhere, there aren't any high rises, so you can see the wonderful clouds that are always sweeping by. It's calm and peaceful and full of wonderful people. I'm absolutely in love with my neighborhood. I know I can't capture it with pictures, but here's an attempt.

Summer is my favorite time of year. It is also the time when I'm completely broke. Luckily for me, most of my other friends are too, so we manage to find things to do.

I finally went to the Natural History Museum. I went for one reason:

So, way back in the very begining of September, I went on a trip to help my friend Caitlin move from STL to Denver CO.  I never posted the pictures, partly because my computer was acting up and partly because of how busy work got. BUT, here is our fabulous road trip!
