I discover sledgehammers are not really my thing

Saturdays at work are so much fun.
Usually there is no one else there except for the shop guys, so we have to whole place to ourselves (now's our chance to play ganster rap!), plus our bosses usually take off because there's not much work to do, and while I miss having Tara (one of my bosses) around less work makes it less stressful. Mostly though, it's just nice that there's a difference between the days. It's nice that Saturday feels different, when you work 7 days a weekends don't really mean much.
Today was no exception. We had to be in the shop in case any of the jobs called and needed anything (they did), but we didn't have any upcoming events to get ready. So our job today was to clean out as much crap from the 5th floor as possible, and load it into the huge dumpster that had been put on the 1st floor.
At first this sounded like the worst day ever. And at first is kinda was. Carrying file cabinets and these huge, heavy columns to the dumpster was not so much fun. But then we realized that the dumpster would fill up way too quickly if we didn't do something to make more space. So out came the sledgehammer.
We use sledgehammers sometimes to take down a set. But, A) being an electrician I am not part of that, and B) these were a lot heavier. Even though they gave me the smallest one. Anyway, so we got to smash down a lot of things. It was so much fun!!! Even after we were done the rest of the day was fun. I got to climb on road cases and throw down barrels like donkey kong, and jump on long pieces of wood to try and break it in half, and climb in dumpsters pulling up heavy things, and I'm not saying I want to do this everyday, but it was a nice change of pace for me to do some heavy lifting instead of sitting in the gel corner.
I will say, I was very scared the entire time that the heavy part ofthe hammer would fly off and hit someone. It made me way to nervous. Hammering is apparently not my thing. Eventually one of the handles did break, but not completely so no one got hurt. I got a splinter though. Hurt.
My jeans, which were barely hanging in there, are probably not fit for anything other than work after today.

This was my column after the first load. I split it in two different places!

In other news, I get to see Nick on Monday!!

Drama drama drama

Ok, so coming back to New York has been a little dramatic.

First off, for those of you that didn't already here Kelly got laid off. It was very unexpected, they did not tell anyone it was going to happen. 3 other people also got laid off. Not so good.

Then, with everyone in the company (it is weird to say that word and mean actual business company and not company of actors and techs) still getting over that shock, 2 of our trucks were stolen. With equitment in them. With some of our most expensive equitment in it. Literally hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stuff, gone. So we spent the next couple of days inventoring exactly what was lost while my bosses met with detectives and devised whole new systems of how this company will have to operate to prevent this from happening again (it includes night shifts. Ugh.). (We also spent a good part of the day moving things around to accomodate 2 of our trucks being gone, which is a huge lost and involved me and two other guys almost being killed trying to move some shelves, which sounds scary when I say that but was really very funny. It included a bin rocketing across the room. I was on the floor laughing. You had to be there.)

About 2 days after the trucks were stolen one of our trucks turns up in Queens. Of course it is empty, but apparently it had just been sitting there the whole time, gathering tickets. So the entire truck and all the empty road cases (which cost almost as much as what was in them) have to get fingerprinted. And while all that is going on that plane crash in the Hudson river happened. Which is like, 7 blocks from our building. So we all scramble up to the roof to watch the rescue that is happening. I took some pictures, but the zoom on my phone is...non-existant basically. So what was small but visible from the actual roof is just a speck in these pictures. But you could make out the wing and the tail and even the letters on the plane!! It was unreal.

Umm, so really my days were full of a lot of counting cable, but still, lots of drama around me.

There! Dead center! Those small rectangles, those are the boats. And the little dot is the plane. Or what you can see of it. Umm, this was a picture of all the helicopters, which now I can't even see in the picture.

Hey, here's the view from the roof in the other direction. It's a good roof for snowball fights.

In other new, ganster rap is now banned from being played in the shop, and the shop boys think it's funny to pin the blame on me.

It's very cold in New York.

scary, scary penguins

Long story short, Kelly had a fake penguin that she got from an event at her desk and I had to carry it home for her. I would like to add that my co-worker Chris usually rides the subway with me most of the way home, but this night he took 3 steps away from me and laughed. I would also like to add that the penguin was made out of this really really prickly straw and yet the guy on the subway next to me kept petting it and asking me questions about it. It's not even cute! It's a rather scary looking penguin!!! It was creepy and weird. Anyway, I tried to take a pic of me on the subway, but it was too shakey and crowded.

It's got those tiny little eyes like a cold-blooded killer!!

I thought this sign was funny, because it tells you nothing. "Evening, This evening." Also, that guy in the picture is Joe, Kelly's boyfriend.

I don't know how we even got a 375w bulb at work, but I was fascinated by it.

christmas etc.

Ummm, some pics from before/after/during/around Christmas.

The view from Kelly's apartment. Snow!

Yay Christmas!

The view from O'Hare at about 6am. This is not the seat I slept in, PS. If you look really close you can see some snow plows thru the snow.

White bread!

Creepiest toy ever...and Austin imitating it just reminded me of the Pinky and the Brain Christmas special, with all the hypnotising Brain dolls...anyone else?

Just chill'n with Decaf.

I don't care what Matt says, it was not my fault the cheese didn't work.

Caitlin and I pretending to pack the car, Melinda taking our picture, Alli actually packing the car.

Alli is not pleased.

Turns out both Caitlin and I bought temporary tatoos for us. It was fake tatoo overload!

That moustach just looks great on everyone.
