there's nothing open on Sundays

Here are the list of things open in Vienna on a Sun:
Starbucks
McDonalds
Museums
Public Transportation
2 Grocery stores downtown

And that's it. Nothing is open on Sun. It's lame.

Today went to the Natural History Museum. We went today because it was the last day of the tattoo exhibit, which sounded really cool and I'm sure would have been....but it was all in German. So I walked through it...didn't really learn anything...

Here's my pics from the day. Today I actually am going to the Rathaus to see a free movie.

The Museum Quarter, this chunk of like 4 blocks where most of the Muesums are. They have a mascot, it's a superhero with the letters MQ on him. It's pretty awesome.

carnival!

So, I didn't go to Rathaus, I went to Prater instead with some other girls.
It was amazing!!1
It was the brighest, tackiest, guadiest, loudest, most fabulous carnival I've ever been to!
So here are some pictures of all the pretty lights and morbid statues.
PS (Prater, for all of you who don't know, is a nickname for the amusment park that makes of a corner of a Praterpark. It's trademark is this huge giant ferris wheel that is a famous symbol of vienna that was build in the late 1800s)

Vienna woods

Today I went off on my own to Wienerwald, and first thing I did was take the wrong ubahn. But, after I turned around and went the right way it was a good afternoon. I took a 45 min hike down a foothill, and then took the bus home from this little town called Grinzing. And tonight I'm going to attempt to go to the Rathaus and watch some movies for free. Should be fun.

Eating a lunch of Bratwurts with the other American girls. Mine was a Kasekrainer, which is filled with cheese and was amazing. Notice that they're bigger than my head. They're ginormous.

Hey all!!!
First off, rumor is Robert got cut from Project Runway. Is this true?!?! Why not Vincent?!?!
Second, I guess, things are great here. The jet lag is pretty brutal when you're trying to sit through orientation. The coffee here is ridiculously strong. Me and Zena have this fishnet like contracption that we pour coffee grounds in and then pour water though, so it has like 1 second of brew time, and it literally felt like I'd been punched in the mouth by coffee. Lesson learned, always buy MILD Viennense coffee.
Slowly learning my way around the city. This city is HUGE but it doesn't feel like it because there are NO skyscrapers. So it never feels like a big city. It is also stupidly pretty, and I want to take a picture of every single building. Our district, which is considered pretty ugly and not even on most maps of Vienna, is still really pretty. I love it here. The biggest problem, everything shuts down really early here. Which doesn't really mesh with my already considerably late sleep schedule, which is considerably worse since my internal clock is still on STL time.
I'm still on Z's comp untill the computer tech comes back from leave, so hopefully I'll have internet on my computer soon. I'll put up more pics then.

I made it!
We're in Vienna.
My roomie is Zena. Yay!
Let's see, yesterday we landed, in rain. It was beautiful. I took it as a good sign, since I love rain.
We got settled in our dorms.
The weather here is so cold!! It's in the 60s, maybe 70s
The language barrier isn't too bad if I'm reading. Talking is a no. I can say "I speak english", "thank you", and "excuse me"
My jet lag is finally going away.
Today, we went grocery shopping and then rode the u-bahn downtown.
Bright red hair is pretty fashionable here. I fit right in.
Everyone here has dachunds.
It's actually really cheap here in Vienna, except for the whole conversion rate thing.
We went grocery shopping today. It was fun. So far the food I've tried is good, but we'll see.
To get to school, I take the strassenbahn (streetcar) to the u-bahn (subway) to a bus.
Ummm...I'm sure I have more to say, but it'll wait till later. It's almost sleep time here. But basically, to recap- I love it here, I don't want to leave, its cold, and I'm finding my way around.
