michelle's visit!

So much to catch up on!!

First: Michelle visited me!! Here is the abridged version of her trip.

Hallo Berlin! It's like being back in Vienna.

Times Square for some touristy pictures.

McDonald's for free bathrooms and straws. Also to prove there is no dollar menu in NYC and they sell McDonuts.

She wanted a real NY hotdog. I stuck with a kebab.

For those of you who don't remember, here is the origin of the wax lips. Also, these are brand new. Cuz mine were starting to get pretty gross.

New day; ready to go.

We saw an art exhibit, no pictures allowed of course, that had the artwork of Maurice Sendek (Where the Wild Things Are) and Dr. Suess.

Tiny cupcakes!! I had a s'more and cinnamon, Michelle had a peanut butter and mint.

I made her buy honey-roasted peanuts. So good!

She wanted to go to a hot-dog place, so of course I took her to Crif Dog, best hot dogs ever. PS- I tried one with cream cheese and salsa. Why doesn't everyone always put cream cheese on a hot dog?

Oh man, after the concert we (plus Tara and Jon) went to Katz's Deli, which is supposedly the best sandwich in NYC. They are not kidding!! My rueben was so good!! Dill pickle relish: put it on all your ruebens.

Michelle wanted to go the the Staue of Libery, but it's so far away and hard to get to and it was already getting late. So we went to battery park instead (I swear the staute looks bigger in real life than pics) and made up for not going by wearing ridiculous makeup. Which we put on in Borders. Yah.

I hate pigeons and this sign made me happy.

Another deli for dinner, then off to the Avett Brothers concert. Michelle left the next morning. It was such a fun visit and I'm so glad she came (if it seems ridiculously short, she was here for like a day and a half and amused herself while I worked). And I must say, people were sooo nice to me when we had on all that crazy makeup. Some german tourists even asked to take pictures with us, and people gave up tables for us, we got great service at restaraunts. It was weird.

The new gel girl knocked over the entire gel cabinet. I thought it was funny. Our gel files are now on the floor.

We were pretty desperate for sandbags for awhile, which is why we were using this. It stopped leaking after I taped it up.

I got to climb on top of the freight elevator and hook up lights! Best: they did not stop using it.

Autumn

I've been trying hard to deny it for the past couple of days, but fall is here. There's a chill in the air. It's kinda cold in fact. And work wise, the busy season is here. One day you're getting out at 5pm every day, the next day you're happy to go home by 8.

Seems like summer only last 2 weeks in NYC. But what a great two weeks!

This and that....

Stopped by my corner Italian Bakery for a coffee on Labor Day morning and got this cup:

It is so patriotic!!


This came with some gel we ordered. Creepy, yet funny.

They showed some operas for free outside of the Lincoln Center. I went, and had more fun then I expected. This was La Boheme, but not just any La Boheme, the one I saw in Vienna. Which I love. It's crazy to me to think that 3 years ago I was watching operas outside on a big movie screen at the opera festival at the Rathaus. I still went alone, but it was such a different setting. In New York people sat on the ground, and were really quiet, and some brought picnics or would have a drink from the bar there. In Vienna people talked and yelled at the movie and danced around. Hardley anyone sat. It was so crowded! And everyone ate, I bought so much food there. That's where I had my first Apfel Strudel. But this was fun too. Good job New York.

Look! I used geometry in my everyday life! I had to fit these different size circles, which normallly would take up 14 sheets of gel, onto 9 sheets. And I did it.

They had a free grill-out on the roof for the employees the other day. It was nice. Pretty view.

The shop boys attempt to use cardboard to pre-emptively soak up the leak we sometimes get. I thought it looked like a bad art project.

For all that people make fun of me for my public bathroom pictures, people in New York talk about hand dryers. On numerous occasions people have talked about bars or restaurants and then then mentioned their hand dryers. Girls have made me go to the bathroom if there are really cool ones. And these are the coolest I've seen. they have a light on them! It's crazy!

Tara bought me a cupcake for my birthday! It was sweet of her. And the cupcake was sooooo good!

This is what it looks like when lift gates break. You can also see the broken cart in the background. That's what broke the lift gate. I was operating it at the time, with one of the guys helping me. It was scary, but not really as much as I thought it would be.

Ok, this is from a long time ago, but I never posted it. It is a pineapple filled with vegetables. A PINEAPPLE FILLED WITH VEGETABLES!!! How awesome is that?!
