Sunshine in the city!!

Nick came to visit!!!
About a month ago, Nick came to town and stayed with me for 3 days. Nick is like my ball of sunshine. I just have so much fun with him.

He came in late Sat from a wedding in Jersey, and I managed to back off calling him untill about 8:30 Sunday morning. Lucky for me he is a morning person.

Nick making blueberry pancakes!

Mmmm.

Breakfast on my floor. I am fancy!

We headed off to the Met. Nick has never been there, which I couldn't believe. I knew he'd love it, and the wonderful sculpture on the roof.
The sunlight in the Greek wing was quite lovely.

On the roof of the Met!

It probably goes without saying that Nick loved it.

After the museum we wandered the Park and found a nice place to eat our picnic lunch: bread and water. It was really good bread! And it sounded way less prison-y when we we planning it out in the morning...

Tree climbing!

Wandering the city, wasting time. We stopped by Starbucks to take advantage of nick's employee discount and I just loved this building for some reason.

We went and found Nick's friend Christine and hung out in Times Square. Eva and Peron impressions, of course!

This might be our best yet.

So what we were wasting time for was going to see Altar Boys. We both knew the Stage Manager and the swing was our friend Mitch. So we managed to get in for free to see Mitch as the lead. It was fun, I like that show a lot and Mitch did a great job. AND: on the way to the theatre we saw Alan Cumming!! I LOVE HIM!!! I freaked out just a little and Nick had to keep a close watch on me. Neither one of us are big on meeting celebrities, but I was sooo excited to see him. I wanted a picture so bad but didn't want to ask. Also, he was probably on his way to the Tonys.
Oh, so the Tonys were going on while we were in a show. We got out and watched a little on the big screen in Times Square. That was pretty fun.

After awhile we got bored of the crowds and bad sound quality and went back to my place to watch it on DVR with my roomie.

The next day I unfortunately had to work, so after a lovely breakfast with Nick we parted ways for a few hours. Nick went off to hang out with Mitch and the plan was to meet up after work and go to Musical Monday together. When we met up though, plans immediately changed.
Nick: Hey, would you maybe want to go to a show tonight? Rock of Ages?
Me: Sure.
Nick: Good cuz I already bought you a ticket.

Turns out one of his friends is the understudy in that show, and was going on for the lead, so he got Nick and his mother and grandmother some truely wonderful seats for free, and Nick managed to finagle some standing room seats for me right behind them (although I eventually ended up sitting with them). So it was off to waste some time untill the show.

Nick saw Up in 3D and they gave him those great 3D glasses.

Blockheads, one of our fave restaurants, had too long of a wait so we went to the place across the street. It was not good.

Rock of Ages!

I could not believe how good this show was!! I was rooting for it as the underdog at the Tonys the night before, while Nick was telling me how much he despised Jukebox Musicals. I swear, when it got to the song pictured below, Nick was practically on his feet for a standing ovation in the middle of the show (the whole audience was to be fair, that song stopped the show for a few mins.). He was singing and clapping and just enjoying every second.

It wasn't the best piece of theatre I've ever seen, but it was so much fun, so incredibly well done, and even though I don't listen to that kind of music much in real life I'm all but counting the days till the soundtrack comes out. I spent the next two days at work singing "We're not gonna take it".

We stayed after the show to talk to his friend. It was fun to watch people get his autograph, tell him how much they loved him, and then see his mom tell them that's her son. Oh, and also John Stamos was at the show that night and sat in front of us. Actually he was blocking my way at one time so I made a "get out of my way" face at him and he did. I just thought it was funny that he was there.
Not as exciting as Alan Cumming though.

So after all that, Nick and I finally made it home, pretty late, and I sent him on his way the next morning. Sad. I do always love it when Nick is in town.
